Finley, you are FIVE. You only asked when this day would come approximately one day after turning four. It is here now. And sister, you are ready for it.
You are brave. Much more brave than I remember myself being. You have a confidence that I pray you will never lose. You might hear some people say that women should keep their voices down, not be heard, or see their boldness as a disadvantage. I say the complete opposite. Think before you speak and act, but never be shy to say or do BIG THINGS. You are meant to do BIG THINGS.
You are an entertainer. You love to sing and dance. You love to show your daddy and I new things you have learned. You can drop a beat at any time in front of anyone. I love this.
You are an accessorizer. As I’m writing this, I realize this is not a word. But honestly, I feel like the word suits you and I will choose to use it. You need your own category here. You often want to wear not only a ring and necklace to school, but your tiara. Duh.
You rocked Christmas antlers on Thanksgiving, and I’m quite surprised you have taken them off since.
You’re good to your baby sister. She takes all your things. You know exactly what I’m talking about, and likely when you’re older and reading this she will still be doing the same thing. Your build a bear kitty…claimed. Your new puppy that helped replace that build a bear kitty…claimed. You get upset sometimes, but it’s in the sweetest of moments when you just bring them to her. Almost like a mother instinct, knowing that is what she needs at that very moment. It brings me near to tears thinking about your love for one another.
You’re older brother, well, that’s more of a tough love. But sister, you can hang most days.
You are creative. This is one of my favorite things about you. Most mornings you have a pen or marker in hand shortly after you’ve crawled out of bed. You use countless pieces of paper, every one adored with your name written somewhere. You draw mostly for others. You make sure BFF makes the page, even on pictures you have drawn for your daddy and me and I’m totally ok with that. Your imagination gives you so much life. Creativity is a way to share your soul with the world, as Brene Brown, one of my favorite writers says so often. Don’t forget that.
Finley, say goodbye to FOUR and HELLO TO FIVE!!!
Love you so much,
